Good Wednesday afternoon E102 families! I hope you all had a restful Spring Break! It went by quick! This week we will be catching up on PLTW and digging deep into Math (the concepts we have been doing this week may need a bit more practice), therefore, we will not have spelling words this week. We will start a new Reading Wonders Unit next week with new words. We are also practicing our opinion writing to include our favorite breakfast, lunch and dinner foods to make short videos to send to a High School Foods and Nutrition Class so those students can learn more about Hawaiian foods. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! The countdown to summer is on :) Aloha!

Happy Fall Break! Yay! Hurray! Finally! Quarter 1 Down! We had a great week learning about plants and animals! Your student has a Fall Break packet with them today that includes 5 review math practice pages, 2 grammar pages and a writing page. Please have them
complete this if possible and return it Monday October 17th to receive a prize. I also reminded them to read over the break and record their books on their reading log. I encouraged them to use Raz Kids A-Z or Epic! to find books on plants and animals. You can also have them work on iReady lessons. Please do not overwhelm your child over fall break with the work, but if they have time, have them practice these things. For the writing assignment, there is a 5 star rubric to use to help. I will post a picture of it for those that did not receive the rubric if your student was not here today. They also received a Fire Week Safety Guide book that is full of fun activities and a quiz at the end as well as a pledge on the back. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, but I may take more than a day to respond over the break. Have a nice, relaxing Fall Break! Enjoy your family! Happy Friday E102! We have had a very busy week! The Book-It! reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut starts tomorrow! Please check the flyer in the GO Binder for more information! Students must read 20 books in order to receive their free personal pan pizza coupon.
Show off your school pride this week by participating in each days events! See the attached document for a description of each day.
Happy Aloha Friday! We had a long, busy day full of quizzes, resource classes, counting on in math and iPad time! Please be sure to check your child's GO Binder for a stack of papers that have been checked and returned to keep at home. You will also find a monthly Dojo Report for your child that will show a green and red pie chart. This report will normally go home weekly/bi-weekly, but this was for the whole month of August. Please sign and return it Tuesday. If you have any questions about the marks please see my class website under "Rules and Expectations" for a list of the GLO's and examples - all Dojo points are based on these guidelines which is also a grade on the report card. *No school on Monday due to Labor Day! Tuesday = Field trip! Please send in a snack and bagged lunch from home with your child on Tuesday morning. They will not be able to buy milk or lunch from the cafeteria. Students need to wear their Hookele school shirt and closed toed shoes. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Stay safe and dry this weekend!
Good Monday Afternoon! I hope you had a relaxing and fun filled 3 day weekend! I have updated our class website with a few things, please be sure to check it out! I have added the Wonders Study Guide for the week under the Homework tab - you can find all the important information for ELA there including spelling words! I have also added a resource tab for Raz Kids - a letter will be going home tomorrow with more information. Please be sure to check the GO binder daily! Library books are due back by Wednesday, we go to the library to borrow new books every Thursday. If your child is finished reading, they can leave their books at school so they do not forget them later in the week. As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. We are going to have a GREAT full week! PS The entire class did SUCH a great job with the practice fire drill this morning, setting such a good example for the rest of the first grade and kindergarten classes, that I rewarded them with something sweet :) Have a good afternoon!
It is almost Friday! We have almost completed a full first week back to school and in 1st grade!!! Thank you so much for your continued support at home and all the great questions. We are still practicing routines and procedures in class. The most important piece of everything right now is the GO Binder. This binder is a key to your students success. Please make sure to check it daily. This week we have mostly used the first two pockets: Return to School and Keep at Home. Please make sure to initial on the weekly planner sheet where homework is listed as well as in the box for their daily behavior. If any forms are in that pocket, please read, sign, and return them to school. Tomorrow I will resend some forms that need to be returned as well as another Connect to Dojo letter - this is the best way to stay informed with quick reminder/updates for our class. Class Dojo will also serve as a quick glimpse of how their behavior for the week. There is also a "Facebook Wall" of sorts that will show pictures, videos and posts of what is happening in our classroom that you can view, like or comment on. Reading Logs will start next week! Spelling will start the week after. Math will be daily! Mahalo for your continued support :)Welcome to First Grade! My name is Stefanie White and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. This will be my first year at Ho’okele Elementary, but my fifth year teaching. I started teaching in Second grade in NC and taught Third grade last year here in Hawaii.
I was born in Indiana, moved around a lot and ended up in North Carolina where I attended East Carolina University. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I have always loved math and seem to associate it in every subject I teach. First Grade is a very busy, exciting experience. Your child will spend a lot of time in text and will develop a love for reading. He or she will learn to use logical reasoning to answer mathematical problems based on real-life applications. The students will become young engineers through experimentation in PLTW. This year, our class will also learn to work together as a team, building a sense of community in our classroom. Throughout my time with your child, I am hoping to get to know each of you better as well. I firmly believe that a partnership between the teacher and family is crucial for a child’s success. It is important that we have an ongoing relationship in which we communicate regularly and discuss your child’s progress. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting each of you soon and working closely with your child this school year! |
